Q. How does the SmartBanner™ system work?
A. As potential patients visit Consumer Guide to Dentistry®, the SmartBanner system detects their location and automatically displays the five nearest SmartBanners™ (based on the proximity of the dentist’s office(s) to the patient) throughout the site.
Note: If a dentist purchases an exclusive zip code, then his/her promotion will automatically appear as one of the top three SmartBanner™ positions for all website visitors based in that location.
Q. Does SmartBanner™ send traffic to my website?
A. Yes, each SmartBanner™ provides a direct link to your website.
Q. How many potential patients will see my SmartBanner™?
A. The number of potential patients who will see your SmartBanner™ depends on your office location and surrounding population and whether you have purchased exclusive zip codes.* SmartBanners™ for practices in dense metropolitan areas (Manhattan, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc.) average 8,000 to 10,000 potential-patient views a month.
* Zip code purchases allow you to expand your visibility and increase potential patient views.
Q. How much traffic does Consumer Guide to Dentistry® receive?
A. Consumer Guide to Dentistry® receives more than 3.5 million visitors per year, 90 percent of which are unique visitors.
Q. How do you determine the location of visitors to the Consumer Guide to Dentistry®?
A. Visitor location is identified through HTML5 Geolocation or the IP address of their computer or mobile device.
Note: A visitor’s IP location is not always identical to that of their computer or mobile device.
Q. Why should I purchase exclusive zip codes?
A. Exclusive zip code purchases guarantee expanded visibility for your SmartBanner™. It allows offices located in more remote areas to reach potential patients from more populated areas that are further away from your actual practice location. Also, purchasing the zip code where your own office is located ensures that your SmartBanner™ will not lose visibility to other dentists seeking to market their practice in your area. If you want your SmartBanner™ to appear to potential patients outside your immediate surrounding area, then it’s best to purchase those exclusive zip codes. Once you purchase an exclusive zip code, your SmartBanner™ will appear in one of the top three positions to potential patients in those zip codes.
Q. How much do exclusive zip codes cost?
A. Exclusive zip codes range from $20 per month to $40 per month for the most populated zip codes. Price is determined based on the volume of high-income households in a given zip code.
Q. Is there a limit to the number of zip codes I can purchase?
A. No, there is no limit to the number of zip codes you can purchase. Subject to availability*, you can reserve placement in as many zip codes as you wish to be found.
* Only three of the five SmartBanner™ promotions in any single zip code are available for exclusive zip code purchase.

Q. Why doesn’t my SmartBanner™ appear when I view Consumer Guide to Dentistry® from my office computer?
A. When you visit Consumer Guide to Dentistry®, please disclose your location when prompted. If you still do not see your SmartBanner™, it is possible that the location assigned to your IP address is not identical to the physical location of your office. Your location has been identified as – ,
Q. Why are practices located further away than mine displayed above me?
A. Practices outside your geographic location that appear above your SmartBanner™ promotion have purchased exclusive zip code placement. Three of the five SmartBanner™ listings can be reserved for exclusive zip code placement.
Q. Why isn’t my listing featured in the Consumer Guide to Dentistry® Directory?
A. Your SmartBanner™ account does not include placement in the Consumer Guide to Dentistry® Directory, our premium practice marketing service. If you would like information about being featured in the Consumer Guide to Dentistry® Directory with a full profile page, contact our sales department for more information.
Q. Can my SmartBanner™ be found if a potential patient searches for my zip code on Consumer Guide to Dentistry®?
A. Your SmartBanner™ will appear if you are one of the seven nearest practices to the visitor’s location. However, if you purchase an exclusive zip code, your SmartBanner™ will always appear as one of the top three results when a potential patient searches specifically for dentists in that zip code. Search for your zip code to see results.
Q. Can I sign up for more than one SmartBanner™?
A. Yes. Each SmartBanner™ serves one practice location. To promote more than one practice location, additional SmartBanners™ are necessary; one for each location.

Running Successful Campaign
Q. What’s the secret to running a successful SmartBanner™ campaign?
A. Visibility is the key to SmartBanner™ success, and zip code exclusivity is the key to visibility. Determine your budget and select as many exclusive zip codes as possible. Be sure to purchase the zip code where your office is located, so that your SmartBanner™ is guaranteed to appear to potential patients closest to you.
Q. How does SmartBanner™ differ from Pay Per Click advertising?
A. SmartBanner™ affords the opportunity for guaranteed fixed-cost placement by purchasing zip codes. Pay Per Click advertising affords no such guarantee. Also, SmartBanner™ does not have the same budget constraints as Pay Per Click advertising. With Pay Per Click, once your monthly budget is exhausted, your ad no longer appears. SmartBanner™ placements are guaranteed all month, regardless of how many times your ad is viewed or clicked.
Note: Pay Per Click advertising does not protect against the possibility of click fraud, through which your competitors can click on your ad for the sole purpose of costing you money and exhausting your budget. For SmartBanner™, it doesn’t make any difference how often your SmartBanner™ is clicked; your SmartBanner™ continues to appear without additional cost.
Q. Can I add exclusive zip codes at any time?
A. Absolutely! However, keep in mind only three dentists per zip code can reserve placement. Once the three exclusive positions are sold, exclusivity cannot be purchased until a position is vacated.
Q. How many exclusive zip codes can I buy?
A. There’s no limit – add as many zip codes as allowed by your budget!
Q. If I accidentally cancel my SmartBanner™ with exclusive zip codes, can I get them back?
A. Deleted accounts cannot be restored automatically. You will have to create a new SmartBanner™ account. Exclusive zip codes are subject to availability, regardless of the circumstances.

Q. Which credit cards types can I use?

Q. How do SmartBanner™ charges appear on my credit card statement?

Q. If I decide to lower my budget and change my plan in the middle of the month, will my changes be reflected in my billing?
A. Yes. We will prorate your payment to reflect the changes.
Q. Does SmartBanner™ offer email receipts?
A. You will receive an electronic receipt after your initial payment has been processed. Subsequent payments will be charged automatically to your account and you will receive receipt each time.
Q. When will I be charged?
A. Your credit card will be charged every month on the same date you originally subscribed to SmartBanner™. For example, if you subscribed on October 14, then your card will be charged on the 14th of every month. If the date does not occur every billing cycle (e.g., you subscribed on the 31st, but the next month only has 30 days), then your card will be charged on the last day of the month.
Q. Can I pay in advance for my SmartBanner™?
A. No, your card will be charged monthly at the start of each billing cycle.
Q. Is my Credit Card Verification Code (CVC) and billing address required to set up my account?
A. Yes. To prevent fraud, a CVC verification and billing zip code check will be conducted before your credit card is charged.

Q. Can I use any e-mail address to create an account?
A. Yes, you can use any e-mail address to create an account unless this e-mail was used for another SmartBanner™ account.

A. Not a problem! You can reset your password easily. Click here
Q. Can I cancel my account at any time?
A. Yes! You can cancel your account at any time and your credit card will no longer be charged. There are no cancellation fees.
Q. Can I have multiple accounts with SmartBanner™?
A. You can have only one SmartBanner™ account for each email address; however, you can have multiple SmartBanners™ under a single account. Establishing a second account will require a separate email address and log in. Multiple accounts may be desired if you manage different practices. Duplicate SmartBanners for the same practice (name and address) are prohibited regardless of whether they are within the same account or not.
